On Monday June 5th India opened their 2024 T20 Cricket Tournament with a resounding victory over Ireland. After winning the toss, Captain Rohit Sharma decided that the Indian team would field first, which necessitated the Ireland batmen to bat first. Captain Rohit Sharma said that having experienced the playing condition of the new wicket in New York during the warm -up match against Sri Lanka on Saturday June 1st, it was his opinion that the batting pitch would be very helpful to India seam bowlers. Put in to bat first Ireland was bowled out in sixteen of their allotted twenty overs for 96 runs giving India a score of 97 runs for victory.

From the opening ceremony to India clinching victory in the thirteen over the crowd in attendance was in a festive mood, chanting India, India, India, and repeating their favorite star player names, Rohit, Kohli, Hardik, Bumrah, Rishabh constantly completely overwhelming the voice of the Irish fans in attendance.
In a post match interview Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour responding to a reporter's question if the batting conditions are ideal seeing that no team managed to score 100 runs during the two previous matches, he stated and I quote:
"As I stated earlier, it is a challenging wicket as far as batting is concerned but this is what we have so we need to find ways to deal with it. Like I said earlier, we have enough skills and experience in the batting group especially to deal with that. We have enough good batters who can manage to bat well on any kind of surface. I think that has been our strength for many, many years. I think we can adapt really well to different conditions, and I think on this surface you really need to adapt well and take it head on and not worry about it too much and you're right, we have everybody fit, and they're all looking good. They're are all batting well, so yeah it's a good space to be as a batting coach".
India's next scheduled match is due to take place on Sunday June ninth against arcrival Pakistan, who shocking lost their opening match against Team USA today June 6th in Texas.
